Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the simplest ways you can dramatically enhance your teeth and improve your appearance. Teeth whitening is a bleaching process that reverses discolourations of the enamel (the outside layer of tooth structure) to create a whiter, brighter appearance.

Thanks to new materials and technology, you can have a whiter, brighter smile!

Have you ever noticed how some people can practically light up a room with their bright, beautiful smiles? A natural-looking, sparkling, white smile can be yours with a safe, painless and effective professional whitening procedure —and a little help from us!

With teeth whitening, there is no loss of the natural tooth structure and no anaesthetic is required for the procedure.

At Clifton Hill Dental, we offer two types of teeth whitening services, ZOOM™ in chair whitening and a take-home custom tray teeth whitening kit.

Philips Zoom™ in chair teeth whitening

Philips ZOOM™ teeth whitening, in chair whitening is an in-office, light activated treatment that is applied by the dentist or dental therapist and provides results in around an hour.

It’s ideal for people who want instant teeth whitening results.

We recommend using a sensitive tooth paste for a few days following the procedure as teeth can be quite sensitive.

Take-home teeth whitening kit

Our take-home custom tray whitening kit is an effective and easy way to lighten teeth. It allows you to control the level of brightness.

How does the take-home teeth whitening kit work?

  • First, you’ll be fitted for thin custom mouth trays for use at home.
  • Then, we’ll discuss with you the many products that offer varying concentrations of bleaching agents, which determines the amount of time you are required to wear the custom mouth trays to achieve whitening results.

Peroxide-containing whiteners typically come in gel form that you apply to your custom-fitted mouth tray. Some products are used twice a day for 2 weeks. Others are designed for overnight use for up to two weeks. Newer products continue to offer shorter daily wear times to encourage patient compliance and achieve faster results. During at-home treatment, you must return to our office to ensure the product is working and that your teeth and gums remain healthy.

Are touch ups ever required?

To stay whiter and brighter, your teeth may require periodic touch ups. Your custom mouth trays with a whitening solution might need to be worn for a few days to a week.

Are there any side effects from tooth whitening?

Some patients’ teeth exhibit a chalky appearance for a short time, due to slight dehydration caused by the whitening solution. Occasionally, patients experience mild sensitivity to cold food and beverages for a day or two following the procedure.

Information to consider

It is a requirement of Clifton Hill Dental that your teeth be professionally cleaned before any whitening procedure is undertaken. Teeth whitening will only work on natural teeth, it will not bleach crowns or fillings. Teeth whitening is not recommended if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

We invite you to contact us to discuss your specific teeth whitening needs and we’ll be happy to advise you.
